Soft, sun-kissed colour — hand-painted by master colourists.

Balayage is one of the most beautiful colour services there is, but it’s also one of the most technical. At STYLEMASTERS in Eden on the Bay, every balayage is hand-painted into foil by one of our three master colourists — Adrian Putz, Calub Hart or Jaco Paxton Krüger — each with more than 30 years of experience. The result: a soft, dimensional, lived-in colour that grows out beautifully with no harsh regrowth lines.
What is balayage?
Balayage is a freehand hair colouring technique where lightener is hand-painted directly onto the hair, creating a smooth, natural gradient from your roots through to brighter ends. Unlike traditional foil highlights, balayage grows out softly — making it one of the most low-maintenance colour services available.
Our technique: hand-painted into foil
There are two ways to apply balayage — open-air (left exposed to develop) and into foil. At STYLEMASTERS we use the freehand painting technique within foil: each section is hand-painted exactly the way traditional balayage is, then sealed in foil to develop. The foil gives us cleaner lift, brighter results and far more control over the final tone — without losing the soft, dimensional placement that makes balayage so beautiful in the first place. It’s the best of both worlds, and it’s the technique our master colourists have refined over decades.

Our approach
Every balayage at STYLEMASTERS begins with a thorough consultation. We assess your current colour, your hair’s condition and history, and the look you’re after. From there, your colourist will design a custom placement that suits your features, your skin tone and your lifestyle.
For clients with previously coloured or box-dyed hair, we may recommend a staged approach across two or three visits to lift safely and protect the strength of your hair. Hair health always comes first — a beautiful balayage on healthy hair is always our goal.
Hair health, always
Every colour and foil service at STYLEMASTERS includes a complimentary Olaplex or K18 bond-building treatment, on the house. We also use Paul Mitchell and Kevin Murphy professional products throughout — because beautiful colour should always sit on healthy hair.

FAQs
How long does balayage take?
A full balayage typically takes 2.5 to 4 hours depending on your hair length and the complexity of the colour.
How often will I need a touch-up?
One of the great things about balayage is how softly it grows out. Most clients return every 3 to 5 months for a refresh — making it a beautifully low-maintenance choice.
Can I get balayage on dark hair?
Absolutely. Our colourists are experienced in lifting dark hair gradually and safely. If you have very dark or previously coloured hair, we may recommend a staged approach across multiple visits to protect the integrity of your hair.
Is balayage the same as ombré?
They’re similar but not the same. Balayage is the technique — colour hand-painted onto the hair. Ombré is the look — a gradient from dark to light. Balayage can create an ombré effect, but it can also be done much more subtly.
